If this movie does well in Japan (its last large overseas market), the global box office of Kingsman 2 will surpass 400M. But I think it will not top the first movie’s 414.3M record.
It seems Matthew Vaughn is keen to complete Eggsy’s journey in three movies. But I hope Vaughn can spend more time on the Statesman characters. The second movie is still Kingsman centric. But the marketing team used false adavertising to highlight big-name American actors. They created the illusion that the Kingsman will team up with the Statesman in a more significant way in Kingsman 2. Anyway, that’s disappointing to me.
Speaking of the future of the franchise, it will be interesting to see how well Taron Egerton does outside the Kingsman franchise. I doubt Colin Firth will stay after K3. So will Egerton be able to continue the franchise? Without the support of heavy-weight established actors, he as a young actor, has not proved that he can carry a movie on his own. The upcoming “Robin Hood” movie looks too similar to 2017’s boxoffice failure “King Arthur”, and I do not think it will be a fanancial success.
